I'll be honest: I love cowboys. Who doesn't?
Symbolically and metaphorically, they represent ultimate masculinity. The wild, untamed perfect man on the edge of civilization and wilderness. A man who looks gorgeous in the saddle, whose gentlemanly manners make him dip his Stetson, and whose work-hardened body makes him a wet dream for any man or woman.
That is who my cowboy heroes are at heart. The mythical cowboys. The dreams come true. The kind of men whose stoney exterior hides a sweet romantic. No wonder my other heroes fall head over heels for them.
And that is the basic tale in the books of this Cowboys of Snow Lake series. A love story between two men.
These Cowboys of Snow Lake books are contemporary gay cowboy romances. They are available in e-book formats from Siren Publishing, and as paperbacks at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers.
Enjoy!

Four Star Review by The Romance Reviews:
"RIVERS OF WIND is a great read. A compelling story and likeable characters made it difficult to put the book down."
Four Star Review by Mrs. Condit & Friends Read Books:
"RIVERS OF WIND is a good beginning to a contemporary western series and I’m certainly looking forward to reading the rest of the books."
This book, Rivers of Passion, released on Mar 15, 2012. This is a contemporary M/M cowboy romance, the second in the Cowboys of Snow Lake series. This is available in e-book formats from Siren Publishing, and in paperback form at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers.
Here's the blurb:
"An artist seeking inspiration meets a cowboy in the deep ranges of Wyoming.
Jamey Wilde comes to the Windy River Ranch to spend time with his best friend Jayden Frost, who lives there with his ranch-owning boyfriend, Mal Ryder. On the very first night there, Jamey meets a kind, smart, witty, and sexy cowboy, Beauregard Remington, who warmly welcomes him to the ranch.
From the start Bo and Jamey share an immediate attraction. As Bo begins his courtship and Jamey his chase, they find that despite their origins they have a lot in common—and the sex reflects that instinctive bond they share.
But the lovers' life together is far from smooth in the small town of Snow Lake, where confrontations with jealous ex-boyfriends and drunken bigots can lead to bar brawls and nights spent in jail.
With friends, family, faith, and love, any obstacle can be overcome."
Four Star Review by Mrs. Condit & Friends Read Books:
"Susan Laine writes erotic gay romance that is fun to follow and exciting to read about not only the sex but the relationships. RIVERS OF WIND continues an enjoyable contemporary western --"
This book, Mending Fences, released on June 12, 2012. This is a contemporary M/M cowboy romance, the third in the Cowboys of Snow Lake series. This is available in e-book formats from Siren Publishing, and in paperback form at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers.
Here's the blurb:
"Getting his life back together is not an easy task for Clayton Jennings, a rodeo cowboy who was accidentally outed as gay in front of his fiancée. He finds himself alone, drunk, and beaten up on a daily basis.
Enter the knight in shining armor.
Jesse Brown, the sheriff of Snow Lake, rescues Clayton. Healing the man from the pain of physical wounds is one thing. Healing him from the hurt of self-loathing and sense of worthlessness is another. Jesse has his work cut out for himself if he means to save Clayton from his enemies—and himself.
The only way to do that is teach the cowboy who has lost everything to accept that maybe he’s not a charity case after all, but the object of a man’s desire, adoration, and love."
I didn't want to write about Clayton initially. I hated him and his devious meddling ways. But as he kept banging his head on the wall that was my resistance to hear him, I realized that he hated himself way more than I ever could.
So, I listened to his story—and this book is the result.
This is a story about redemption, accepting the love of another, and finding your self-respect after numerous mistakes and accidents. This is a story about mending your relationship with a hostile world, with a possible love interest you never really knew until push came to shove—and with yourself lost in a wilderness.
Five Star Review by Long And Short Reviews:
"With two completely different personalities, Clayton and Jesse’s story kept me mesmerized. I even enjoyed how their past played a role in their present. They had a unique connection that was evident from the beginning of the story, and made me want to learn more and more about them individually as well as together."
Four and a Half Star Review by Mrs. Condit & Friends Read Books:
"Susan Laine’s third book in the COWBOYS OF SNOW LAKE series is a redemption of the bad boy story. MENDING FENCES is about more than mending fences (and that term has a specific meaning to this book). It’s about mending broken hearts, damaged minds, and shattered bodies. -- I really enjoyed this book. In fact, it is my favorite of all of the Cowboys of Snow Lake series. I recommend it for those who like m/m romance, relatively gentle bdsm (not much more than stern words, orgasm denial, and spanking), and two men who truly deserve each other, in the kindest sense of that term."
This book, Cowboy's Challenge, released on May 4, 2013. This is a contemporary M/M cowboy romance, the fourth in the Cowboys of Snow Lake series. This is available in e-book formats from Siren Publishing, and in paperback form at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers.
Here's the blurb:
"Simon Westfield is the owner of a stud farm in Wyoming. He’s recently lost his brother in the army, and has become the guardian of two young children, Dale and Allie. After a while, it’s clear he needs help.
Enter Tristan Markham, a professional live-in male nanny, or manny.
Though great with kids, Tristan is as strong-willed as Simon, and their points of view on everything are polar opposites. Where Simon is closeted, reserved, and introverted, Tristan is an out and proud liberal pacifist.
Clashes are inevitable.
But they can’t deny their growing attraction, so a deal is struck. Casual sex only. But when things start to go wrong—Simon’s mother dying of cancer, the kids’ grandparents suing for custody, and Simon being thrust out of the closet—it’s time for them to work together, or lose everything they have.
Because despite their differences, they are a family. And families stick together—no matter what."
Five Star Review by Top 2 Bottom Reviews:
"To say that I loved this book is an understatement. I thought Ms. Laine did an excellent job at developing the relationship between Simon and Tristan. Although they seem like polar opposites, they really aren’t. True, they don’t always see things eye to eye, but in the end they want the same thing and are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve it. Between the intense chemistry and true respect and friendship that they had together, I found myself really loving these characters and hoping they would find the happy ending they deserve."
Four Star Review by MM Good Book Reviews:
"I really enjoyed this story and its development. The relationship between Simon and Tristan doesn’t happen overnight and when it does start it’s hot and explosive. -- I will recommend this to those who love cowboys, mannys, family stories, compromise, finding love, hot sex and a very happy ending."
Four Star Review by The Romance Reviews:
"Susan Laine puts her men into difficult situations, lets them battle it out, have lots of hot make-up sex, and come to grips with the fact that love can indeed conquer all. This book resonates with family trials and tribulations, a tragic death and the knowledge that both men are getting in deeper in their relationship than they ever thought possible. Her words paint images of a place I can only dream about going one day, a place untouched by time, and her characters are sketched with such skill that you really feel you're getting to know them intimately. Their story jumps off the pages, drawing you into their world, and when you turn the final page, you sigh in both satisfaction and regret. Satisfaction that there is always a happy ever after and regret that the story has finished. Once again, Susan Laine's story is one you'll want to read and enjoy over and over again."
Four Star Review by Joyfully Jay:
"Cowboy’s Challenge is a story of opposites attract. Simon is a surly, conflicted cowboy who has taken on a responsibility that he doesn’t regret, but he also has no idea how to handle. Tristan is an open, caring, nurturing man, who has the answers Simon needs but doesn’t want. They butt heads more times than not in the first half of the book, but when they find their compromise they make an unstoppable team, even if they still don’t always agree. I enjoyed the story itself. The plot itself is believable and sad and sweet. There was a point that I actually shed a few tears."
This book, Hard & Raw, released on Aug 3, 2013. This is a contemporary M/M/M cowboy BDSM romance, the fifth in the Cowboys of Snow Lake series. This is available in e-book formats from Siren Publishing, and in paperback form at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers.
Here's the blurb:
"Late one snowy night, baker Noah Appleton breaks his delivery van. He calls Hard & Raw Repairs for a tow truck. What comes to find him that night, however, is destiny in the form of two gorgeous men.
Jake Harding is the sweetest, hottest cowboy-mechanic, while his best friend and business partner, Michael Rawlins, is a dangerous and seductive bad-boy biker. They are both tops and Doms, which thrills and scares Noah. They bid him entry into a world of sexual submission he has always wanted to experience but never dared.
Michael and Jake set out to train Noah in the ways of pleasure slavery, be it at a BDSM club, a ranch, or a garage. Along the way the three men grow closer, and sex turns into intimacy. Noah's desire for submission changes into a hope of a shared future under Wyoming winter skies."

1. Originally, Michael was supposed to have a tattoo on his penis, too, but I decided against it in the end. He would have been tough enough to take it, for sure, but maybe I was the one too squeamish…
2. Also, I had intended for Jake and Noah to have sex on horseback, but I just couldn't get the, um, logistics to work. Or, to be precise, the gymnastics. LOL
3. Jake had a brief affair with a professor back at Cornell. Thankfully, under the radar.
4. About the same time, Michael experimented with twin submissives. Ultimately, he wanted his best friend to be a part of any formed trio, and didn't want two subs.
5. Noah was supposed to have a fetish about his glasses and semen, but I let that go since he has quite a few kinks anyway.
6. Jake has a dog called Poison because of a town where he used to live—and where he got burned for suggesting adding Michael to the D/s relationship he had at the time. The sub took it badly, curiously accusing Jake of being a pervert.
7. Though Michael has a Harley-Davidson tattoo, his favorite motorcycle—one he can't afford—is the Ecosse Titanium series, which he adores because of the exposed parts. The bike costs hundreds of thousands of dollars.
8. Stake, the BDSM club, will be featured prominently in upcoming books in the series, too.
Four and a Half Star Review by Mrs. Condit & Friends Read Books:
"Hard & Raw" (book 5 of the Cowboys of Snow Lake series) by Susan Laine is the first of the series that I’ve read and, I’ll admit, I went and bought the other books after finishing it! -- Hard & Raw is a fun, sexy read and one that I would read again for pure pleasure."
Four Star Review by The Romance Reviews:
"Susan Laine is always such a treat to read. I love her characters, her story lines, her settings and her wonderful, sexy descriptions and emotional relationship building. -- Sexy, taut, hot, decadent and steamy, this book is a page turner. The relationship between the three men becomes more than any one of them bargained for. -- I had a great time reading this story, getting involved in Noah's training and seeing how all three partners in this emotionally satisfying relationship develop. Definitely recommended!"
Four Star Review by The TBR Pile:
"What happens when you add one naturally submissive baker to one hard-ass biker and his cowboy mechanic best friend? You get a very hot ménage relationship! -- I enjoyed the read and plan to read more in the series."
This book, Stars & Stripes: A Bedtime Story, released on Feb 8, 2014. This is an historical M/M cowboy/western romance, the sixth in the Cowboys of Snow Lake series. This is available in e-book formats from Siren Publishing, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers.
Here's the blurb:
"Sheriff Jesse Brown tells his restless cowboy lover, Clayton Jennings, a bedtime story… Snow Lake, 1883.
Sheriff Lincoln "Linc" Redding is tracking an escaped prisoner through the wilderness of Wyoming. The young man, Edwin "Ned" Dove, is accused of theft, his victim a military officer staying at Bernadette’s Boarding House. Dove was being transported to Fort Laramie to stand trial when he somehow managed to flee.
As Lincoln follows the trail and finally catches up with Dove, he learns things aren’t quite so black and white. Lincoln is forced to accept that a tin star on his chest doesn’t mean he has all the answers, or that just because a man wears a striped prison uniform doesn’t mean he’s guilty. It seems illicit conspiracies exist in the seedy underbelly of his town.
Lincoln’s loyalties are divided between doing his duty and falling for a man he shouldn’t."
There’s a FREE short story prequel to this book on ManLove Authors, called Sheriff’s Dawn. You may read it before or after, it’s your choice. Enjoy.
Five Star Review by Top 2 Bottom Reviews:
"One of the things I love about Ms. Laine’s books is the way her characters really seem to connect on both an emotional and physical level. There is a true bond that forms between them, and it’s because of this that keeps this reader reading her stories from start to finish in one setting.
What I really loved about this book was how well rounded and fast-paced the storyline is. Not only does it have a very strong romance between the two men, there is plenty of character growth, adventure and nail-biting action that kept this reader on the edge of her seat. The two heroes were easy to love and so much fun to get to know. I loved their chemistry and the way they came together as a team to defeat the bad guys, so they can have a happy future together."
Four Star Review by Kit Moss Reviews:
"Framed as a bedtime story a modern day cowboy sheriff tells his restless bedmate, this simple tale of the American West of the late 1800s is full of charm and sexy scenes. -- In spite of its deceptively simple plot, this story has both adventure and a sweetness that invests the reader in these well drawn characters. In addition to the two lovers, a hard bitten world weary yet hopeful lawman and a guileless young Easterner, you have a sinister cavalry officer, a spoiled rotten rich kid, a scheming brothel madam, and a fine upstanding city father, all in character, or lack of character, from first to last seen."
This book, Twist in the Saddle, released on June 11, 2014. This is a contemporary M/M/M cowboy BDSM romance, the seventh in the Cowboys of Snow Lake series. This is available in e-book formats from Siren Publishing, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers.
Here's the blurb:
"Baker Noah Appleton, cowboy Jake Harding, and bad boy biker
Michael
Rawlins have been living together in a threeway D/s relationship for a few months
now at High Stakes Ranch. Jake and Michael are the tops and Doms, while Noah is the submissive slave-in-training.
Spring has come, as has Noah’s birthday. He has his heart set on a true
relationship, one where his Doms engage in sex
with each other too, not just with Noah, so he sets up a kinky birthday surprise. What gifts lay in wait for our threesome?
Bondage in the shower, flogging in the stables, skinny-dipping in a hot spring, sex in the truck, and more…This time when a cowboy, a biker and a submissive step into a bar, it won’t be the start of a smutty joke but one sexy adventure with three hot guys."
Four Star Review by Coffee Time Romance:
"Every page in this story is sensory overload. The sex-a-thon is non-stop, although it is always backed up with love and affection. My only wish is to know these men beyond the passion. They are fun as well as sexy, and I think their story could be so much more with a little look into their everyday lives."
Cowboys of Snow Lake Paperback combines Stars & Stripes: A Bedtime Story and Twist in the Saddle into one book. It came out on Nov 18, 2014. It's available from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers. See the individual book blurbs above.
This book, Marshaling His Cowboy, released on June 9, 2015. This is readily available in e-book formats from Siren Publishing, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers. This is a contemporary M/M cowboy romance with action, suspense, and BDSM. This is the eighth in the Cowboys of Snow Lake series, but works well as a standalone story.
Here's the blurb:

Posing as a ranch hand on Smoking Gulch Ranch, Luke begins his assignment. On the ranch he meets Little Eli Townsend, who is one of cowboys there—and secretly a Dom at the local BDSM club, Stake. Sexually compatible, the two men tumble into bed before they’ve so much as said hello.

Thank you kindly for commenting, Gary. Hmm, do old paranormal creatures count as mature? :D Love of the Wild has an older protagonist. Beyond that, I'll see what I can do.
Hello, Husband and I are just learning about your books. We are gay novel / romance fans for 20 years and are not college age. :) Would you please write mature characters? There are a lot of us. Gary
I actually have stories in mind for both men. Now I think I might need to write a few more :) Thanks for commenting, j.
More Sense and Sensation books. Parker and Luke need a story
