This series, Senses and Sensations, is a collection of standalone contemporary gay romances, available from Dreamspinner Press. Enjoy!

This book, Sounds of Love, released on Mar 19, 2012. This is a contemporary M/M erotic romance, the first in the Senses and Sensations series. This is available in e-book formats from Dreamspinner Press, and in e-book and paperback formats at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers.

Here’s the blurb:

"A Senses and Sensations Story

What does love sound like? If you hear it, will you heed its call?

Police officer Jordan Waters is recovering from a shooting by moving to a new apartment in a new town and taking a new job. In other words, he’s lonely. His first instinct is to relieve his anxiety through uncomplicated sex—until he meets a man so far out of his league and experience that he stumbles for the first time.

Police volunteer Sebastian Sumner may be deaf, but his spirit, openness, and sense of humor give him the strength to get through anything—even the emotional defenses of Jordan Waters. But it’s his own family history that poses the biggest challenge. Can he learn to trust Jordan with his heart, or will his upbringing blind him to the sounds of love?"

Here's the blurb of Aus der Stille, which is the German translation of Sounds of Love, and it can be found in e-book formats at Cursed Verlag and Amazon.

Here's the blurb on Il suono dell’amore, which is the Italian translation of Sounds of Love. This is readily available in e-book formats by Dreamspinner PressAmazon, and Barnes & Noble:

In altre parole, è solo.

Here's the blurb on La voix de l'amour, which is the French translation of Sounds of Love. This is readily available in e-book formats by Dreamspinner PressAmazon, and Barnes & Noble:

Here's the blurb of Sonidos de amor, which is the Spanish translation of Sounds of Love. This is readily available in e-book formats by Dreamspinner PressAmazon, and Barnes & Noble:

In this story I wanted to explore the idea that a particular feature the world views as a disability is just one facet of a person, not the most defining characteristic. Sebastian is deaf, yes, but that is merely one of his many qualities. I didn't want Sebastian's deafness to overwhelm the story — or to be the story. Like color-blindness, or a great sense of smell, or any kind of sensory difference, that is not the story — just a bit of spice to the dish.

I have a tendency to write about men who are not very likable — at first, at least. They may have attitude problems, or overtly sexually aggressive manners, or a habit of taking charge when it's inappropriate. Jordan is used to being the one who calls the shots, and he's sexually aggressive. Sebastian has a different kind of control. One that comes from his sensitivity, and kindness, and friendliness. Naturally, these two personalities clash — despite the less-than immediate attraction. Enjoy!

Five Star Review by Top 2 Bottom Reviews:

"Sounds of Love is the first book I’ve read by Susan Laine and it definitely won’t be my last! I loved the fast-paced storyline and the strong emotional bond between the two main heroes. -- All of the characters in this book are well written and likeable people. I hope that Ms. Laine takes pity on his reader and writes a sequel featuring more of these characters because I’m definitely pining on reading more about them. Sounds of Love has a firm place on my keeper shelf, and I know any time I’m hankering for a sweet, sexy and emotionally charged read, I’ll reach for it time and time again."

Five Star Review by The Romance Reviews:

"There's something so rewarding about stories highlighting that people are different and others may perceive them in different ways. SOUNDS OF LOVE is both powerful and rich in this regard. -- I enjoyed Susan Laine's writing, her way of making the characters so believable and human. Her dialogue flows smoothly, there's humour in certain parts and a definite wickedness in Jordan's pursuit of a man who can certainly hold his own against him. The chemistry between Jordan and Sebastian is immense, their attraction to each other pure scorching heat and I found the relationship and the way it develops tender, extremely sexy and downright beautiful. -- The plot is rich with different facets--family, friendship, the discovery of sexuality, heartbreak and love, delight and pleasure, and Jordan and Sebastian coming to terms with each other. I loved this book and would recommend it as a great, heart warming, tender, sexy read."

Five Star Review by Man Oh Man Reviews:

"What a great story! It was nearly impossible to put it down. The characters in the story were all very lovable and engaging, and the story was well developed and well written. -- I really hope Ms. Laine writes a sequel to this because I'll definitely be there to read it. A+"

Four Star Review by Dark Diva Reviews:

"Susan Laine has created a wonderfully engaging love story in Sounds of Love. --  two very different men come together with a sweet explosiveness. I look forward to reading more by Ms. Laine."

Review by Randy's Book Bag Reviews:

"I wasn’t sure what to think about a book with a main character who couldn’t hear because I didn’t know how the author would handle the characterization.  This author did it very, well indeed, she either knows someone who is deaf or studied the ailment. -- It’s a good story with some mild to moderate sex and a lot of solid making out and heated romance, more than enough to please anyone’s need for excitement and love from their e-reader."

Review by MM Good Book Reviews:

"This is quite a sweet story about two emotional damaged men who must work through their feelings to come together fully. -- I will recommend this one to those who love sweet sexy men, emotionally distanced men, conflict, slight danger, hot erotic loving and a happy ending for all."

This book, Love in Plain Sight, released on Sep 5, 2012. This is a contemporary M/M erotic romance, the second in the Senses and Sensations series. This is available in e-book formats from Dreamspinner PressAmazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers.

Here’s the blurb:

"A Senses and Sensations Story

What does love look like? If you see it, will you give it the attention it deserves?

Police volunteer Sebastian Sumner may be deaf, but he’s strong and capable. He’s been involved with Detective Jordan Waters for a year now. Their relationship hasn’t been smooth sailing, but their love is on solid ground. Too bad their work lives are on shakier soil—Jordan’s is, anyway, as he sets out with his partner to investigate Aldous Henley, a shady art dealer suspected of forgery and smuggling. But proving these crimes and bringing the man to justice is more challenging than Jordan expected.

Before long, Henley isn’t just a work problem. The case consumes Jordan’s attention, and he’s struggling to balance his busy professional life and his equally important private life—especially with a significant anniversary approaching. Love may be in plain sight, but that doesn’t mean it should be taken for granted."

Here's the blurb of Mit deinen Händen, which is the German translation of Love in Plain Sight, and it can be found in e-book formats at Cursed Verlag and Amazon.

Here's the blurb on L'amour à portée de main, which is the French translation of Love in Plain Sight. This is readily available in e-book formats by Dreamspinner Press, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble:

Here's the blurb of Amor a simpla vista, which is the Spanish translation of Love in Plain Sight. This is available in e-book formats by Dreamspinner PressAmazon, and Barnes & Noble:

Here's the blurb of L'aspetto dell'amore, which is the Italian translation of Love in Plain Sight. This is available in e-book formats by Dreamspinner PressAmazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers:

While Sounds of Love was from Jordan's point of view, Love In Plain Sight is from Sebastian's point of view. Also, there's less inner musings and more action. Enjoy!

Five Star Review by Top 2 Bottom Reviews:

"It’s no secret that I love Susan Laine’s books. Not only does she write memorable characters, I love the way they relate to each other, love each other and fit each other into their lives. In Love in Plain Sight, Ms. Laine continues the story of Jordan and Sebastian’s story. -- I’m anxiously awaiting the next book in this series and hope to read more about these wonderful characters soon."

Five Star Review by Man Oh Man Reviews:

"This story is very well written. All of the characters we know and love are back. We get a few brief minutes with Kevin and Jack, enough to know that their story continues. The ending on this one is absolutely fantastic and set up for another story. I’m very much looking forward to the possibility of a third book in this series. I would love to find out what happens next with all of the characters. A+"

4.5 Star Review by Mrs. Condit & Friends Read Books:

"The book is character driven, with a fascinating and unique perspective of the world through a deaf person’s eyes. -- The sex is tender, passionate, and smoking hot. The story has a very lovely HEA ending, that I thoroughly enjoyed and would reccommend to anyone looking for a quick read that is absolutely beautiful."

This book, Luminous Touch, released on Mar 27, 2013. This is a contemporary M/M erotic romance, the third in the Senses and Sensations series. This is available in e-book formats from Dreamspinner PressAmazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers.

Here’s the blurb:

"A Senses and Sensations Story

Just off work one wintery evening, EMT Jack Waters comes across a blazing building, and he sets out to do his job. A day later he wakes up in a hospital, suffering from severe burns. For a man who values his beauty, the injury is devastating.

But Jack hardly has time to process what’s happened. Waiting by his bedside are his cop ex-boyfriend, Kevin Thompson, and his fireman rescuer, Luke Kennard, who both seem determined to compete for his attention—burns or no. Jack pushes Kevin away, fearing the man will want nothing to do with him now, and seems to be proven right when Kevin leaves without a fight. The scene is set for seductive, playful Luke to begin a flirtation with Jack, soothing his fragile ego.

When new fires break out all over town, targeting rescue personnel, clues point to someone close to Jack. He survived one fire, but he might not be so lucky next time. For it seems he is pursued by a relentless foe. If he isn’t careful, the flames will reduce him to ashes… unless the love of two men burns him first."

Here's the blurb of In dein Herz, which is the German translation of Luminous Touch, and it can be found in e-book formats at Cursed Verlag and Amazon.

Here's the blurb on Il tocco dell’amore, which is the Italian translation of A Luminous Touch. This will available on Nov 22, 2016 in e-book formats by Dreamspinner Press:

Five Star Review by Top 2 Bottom Reviews:

"It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Susan Laine’s books. The Senses and Sensations series is one of my favorites. I’ve been looking forward to reading Jack and Kevin’s book for some time now and was very excited to finally get my greedy hands on a copy of it. -- I can’t wait to for Ms. Laine to write more of about these characters. Once you read these stories, you too will totally fall in love with these amazing men."

Four Star Review by The Romance Reviews:

"I'm a fan of Susan Laine's writing, I have to confess. I love her heroes, the men that she writes about. I love their failings, their fears, their strengths and their passions. And this particular book also has a great action and suspense theme running through it which makes it all the more readable. -- Susan Laine draws you into their world, makes you feel for them as these men worm their way into your heart. Of course, there's conflict, jealousy, tenderness, despair, intrigue and suspense as the situation for Jack grows more dangerous with each passing day. But with perseverance and the love of a good man, all things are possible. This book is an excellent read and I'd say without reservation that the whole Sense and Sensations series is well worth the effort."

Four Star Review by MM Good Book Reviews:

"This is an interesting story of opposites attracting, but finding it difficult to connect in a relationship.  Add in an admirer and a firebug with an obsession and we have an explosive story. -- I have to recommend this to those who love messy relationships, admitting your faults, grabbing onto love, a mystery, danger, hot sex and a happy ending."

Great Review by Joyfully Reviewed:

"In A Luminous Touch, the third book in the Senses and Sensations series, the main characters danced around a relationship without making an attempt at seriously communicating. Luke becomes the catalyst who forces Jack and Kevin to finally examine what’s been going wrong between them. Easily read as a standalone story A Luminous Touch features engaging characters and a couple of wicked twists in the plotline to enhance the overall story. This series rocks."

This book, The Sweetest Scent, released on Sep 23, 2013. This is a contemporary M/M erotic romance with transgender and genderqueer themes. This is the fourth in the Senses and Sensations series. This is available in e-book formats from Dreamspinner Press, and in e-book and paperback formats at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers.

Here’s the blurb:

"A Senses and Sensations Story

Football player Bro Sumner and genderqueer Lacey Adair are an exclusive item. Though their high school years have been mostly happy, they continually face dangerous opposition—including a bully on Bro’s team and Lacey’s violent alcoholic father—because Lacey won’t live the traditional gender role she was born to. She chooses to wear dresses and makeup and appear female; underneath the wrappings, she’s content with physically being a male in a gay relationship with Bro, and she doesn’t want that to change.

Their differing plans for the future after graduation, however, may create changes they can’t weather. A compromise with the help of relatives and friends means Bro and Lacey can go to school only an hour apart, but they still miss each other. It’s not long before they make new friendships and discover new romantic possibilities. Temptations, jealousies, distance, and expanding horizons could sever their relationship forever unless they can keep their dream of a life together alive in their hearts."

The Sweetest Scent got an Honorable Mention in the 2014 Rainbow Awards as a semi-finalist.

A FREE story, called Lanterns of Love, is available at the DSP Blog from the title link. This short story completes the tale between Bro and Lacey with a wedding under red lanterns. Advised to be read after the book. Enjoy.

A Bit About Lacey:

When writing this two-part story, my foremost thought was Lacey being normal. I never saw her any other way.

For her—a boy—dressing up in girl's clothes is normal. In the eyes of the world that makes her a transvestite, transgender, or genderqueer. When a woman wears pants, however, she is not either of those things. But for a boy to doll up and desire to feel pretty, that's apparently a whole other ball game.

For Lacey, this way of being is natural. It's the adults who have a problem with her. It's the adults who demand labels and categories to even remotely try to understand her. Yet, they don't really understand, or make an effort.

Does Lacey feel like a boy or a girl? Does she want to physically be a boy or a girl? Does she like being called a she or a he? In Finnish, we don't have gender designations for him/her personal pronoun. We simply have hän. In English, a gender classification is required, and this is apparently a social issue as well. Is Lacey Bro's girlfriend or boyfriend? Funny how that is a question neither teenager feels compelled to adress. To each other, they simply are friends, lovers, partners. Lacey and Bro are together.

From the beginning my goal for this story was to depict Lacey's problems as the kinds any teenager might face, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation. An alcoholic, abusive parent; being bullied in school; the pressure to conform vs. the need to be him/herself; following one's own dreams vs. acquiescing to a parent's dreams. In that sense, Lacey being a boy in a girl's dress is secondary. For her, there is no other way to be who she is. And that is how I wrote it: As a normal, natural, instictive way of being. If adults pay attention to only this one outward aspect of Lacey, then it's their problem, revealing more about them than her.

I chose a point of view where Lacey's genderqueerness is not the whole story. This is a romance, an erotic coming of age tale of a young man who comes into her own, battered by a world that sees her as a freak, but also blossoming in the light of love and acceptance.

I hope you enjoy this story. I surely enjoyed writing it.

Five Star Review by Fallen Angel Reviews:

"Many of the characters came to life as their stories unfolded holding me spellbound. Lacey had a whimsical yet strong personality willing to fight for what she believed in. -- I was both happy with the end of this story and saddened that it was over because I enjoyed spending time in their world."

Five Star Review by The Romance Reviews:

"Beautifully written! -- THE SWEETEST SCENT is a beautifully written story about life and love, loss and gain, absolution and acceptance. The characters will rip your heart out, their innocence and joy make you weep, the emotions running through the book will leap out of the pages to smack you in the face and leave you wondrous. Susan Laine has put a lot of love and thought and understanding into writing this story. Her talent in depicting the lives of teenagers fraught with love, laughter, sadness and heartbreak shines through and makes you root for Bro and Lacey every step of the way. If you haven't read any of Susan Laine's books, then read her Senses and Sensations books from start to finish. You won't regret you did."

Four Star Review by Smexy Books:

"I was so intrigued by this blurb, I had to read this story and I’m really glad I did. Ms. Laine is a new to me author and while I’ve read adult m/m I had not read one set in high school with a transgender teen. -- I very much enjoyed our lead characters, Bro and Lacey. I couldn’t help but be moved by the way the author depicted the very real struggles these young people faced every day. -- All in all, I liked this author’s take on a same sex couple and the very real issues their relationship experiences as it grows."

This book, Sensible Commitments, released on Dec 18, 2013. This is a contemporary M/M romance, the fifth in the Senses and Sensations series. This is available in e-book formats from Dreamspinner PressAmazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers.

Here’s the blurb:

"A Senses and Sensations Story

After their troubled pasts and their rocky road to “happily ever after,” the time has come for Jordan Waters and Sebastian Sumner to officially declare their love for each other. With the wedding two days before Christmas, the happy couple can’t put off addressing their tenuous relationships with their birth families. Between supportive friends like Jack Waters, Kevin Thompson, Bro Sumner, and Lacey Adair, they've had a taste of what a happy home means, regardless of blood ties. As the wedding approaches, all three couples must make peace with their pasts as they prepare to celebrate friendship, brotherhood, and true love."

5+ Star Review by Top 2 Bottom Reviews:

"It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Susan Laine. I’ve read all of her books and I’ve loved just about all of them. One of the reasons why I like her books so much is how she really seems to know her characters and her own obvious affection for them always shines through in her writing. Between a strong plot and loveable characters, Ms. Laine continuously writes novels that easily become favorites of mine. -- Sounds of Love is a book I reach for when I need a pick-me-up or if I’m in the mood for a beautifully told romantic tale, and now Sensible Commitments will be another book I’ll reach for time and time again as well. -- Once again, Ms. Laine handled this beautifully and I was truly thrilled how the book turned out. If you are looking for a well-told series with amazing characters, this is definitely the series for you. You’ll fall in love with these delightful men and rejoice in each character’s growth and achievements. Love, Love, Love this series and this book and I HIGHLY recommend it."

4 Star Review by Hearts on Fire Reviews:

"It’s a family-oriented story and not necessarily blood family, but the important kind, the kind you choose."
